BLOOMBERG – June 17 – Swatch is waiting for the smartwatch market to grow before launching its own, though the company has all of the needed technology. The company plans to sell components to other manufacturers, quietly benefiting from a potential revolution in the $62B watch industry. Swatch currently supplies an unnamed U.S. fitness band maker. Increased sales of smartwatch components could generate $222M in sales for Swatch. An Apple smartwatch is expected to generate $11B in annual revenues. IDC forecast shipments of wearables to reach 112M units in 2018, up from ~19M this year.
