On the tracking module's rear is a heart rate monitor (HRM). The module can be removed from the wristband for charging via a micro-USB connection. Phone pairing can be done via Bluetooth of NFC.

Sony Seeks Crowdfunding For Wena Smartwatch

Sony wena smartwatchWAREABLE - Aug 31 - Sony has launched a crowdfunding campaign in Japan for the Wena smartwatch, a traditional analog device with smart tech built into the band. Wena stands for 'wear electronics naturally' and Sony's looking for 10 million yen (approximately $82,450) via its own First Flight crowdfunding platform. Wena's 22mm band features an NFC chip that supports the Japanese contactless payment standard FeliCa.

Sony Adds New Tricks To SmartBand 2

The company is also opening its fitness tracker up to iPhone users. The SmartBand 2 will go on sale in September for about $132.

The company has officially launched the B-Trainer in London, it's available for £230 and comes in five colour options, the Smart B-Trainer connects to mobile device via Bluetooth, and collects data from six sensors, including GPS, accelerometers, a compass, gryoscope and barometer, in the headphones to help make workouts more effective.

Sony's First Android Wear Smartwatch And IFA Xperia Line-up

The SmartWatch 3 will be powered by Android Wear and feature a 1.68 inch 320 x 320 display with IP58 certification for dust and water resistance. The design is said to be similar to the Samsung Gear 2 Neo. SmartBand Talk with a curved e-ink display will also be revealed as a successor to the Sony fitness tracker Smartband SWR10.

Wearable Band Shipments Up 684% In 1H 2014

Samsung-Gear-Fit-AH-13ANDROID HEADLINES - Aug 24 - Shipments of wearable bands, including Fitbit and Jawbone UP, have increased 684% from the first half of 2013 to the first half of 2014, according to Canalys. For basic bands, Fitbit was top in shipments, followed by Jawbone UP and Garmin's Vivofit. For smartwatches, Samsung was top in shipments, followed by Pebble Steel and Sony's Smartwatch 2. The numbers for Samsung's Gear Live and LG's G Watch with be posted in Q3.
