Swiss Watchmakers Get Smart

The unit tracks activity and sleep, which can be read on a small sub-dial in the main dial. It can also send information to an app on Android or iPhone by Bluetooth. When traveling across time zones the watch automatically synchronizes with phone and adjusts to local time. TAG Heuer, a brand associated with racing and other sports, has joined hands with Intel and Google to develop its own smartwatch. Others in the race are Breitling and Gucci, which has come up with the unique idea of putting all the electronics into the strap, and leaving the watch as it is.

App Developers Hesitant To Embrace Smartwatches

The survey, which interviewed 3,150 IoT developers and 670 wearables developers, reports that developers have adopted a cautious attitude towards wearables. The primary concern: a perceived lack of actual consumer interest.

Google Invests In Chinese Search-and-Smartwatch Startup Mobvoi Inc.

Google chinaWSJ - Oct 20 - Google has invested in Mobvoi Inc., a Beijing-based artificial-intelligence startup that provides mobile voice search in Chinese. The company has developed a Chinese voice search mobile app with two million accumulated users, a Chinese smartwatch operating system and a smartwatch called Ticwear. Based on previously disclosed investments in Mobvoi, the amount of Google’s investment is likely to be in the range of $40 million to $45 million.
