Samsung logoANDROID HEADLINES - Nov 12 - In the most recent polls, Samsung was shown to have a whopping 600 patents, placing them firmly at the top of the heap. The runner-up by a pretty wide margin is Philips, with 500 patents (representing 20% of their portfolio). The next biggest wearable patent holders are LG and Canon, with 450, a step-down of 10% from Phillips. South Korea is responsible for 9.4% of global wearable patents, Japan 27.6%, United States with 22.5% and China with 22.4%.

Samsung Sold 180K Gear S2 In China In Under 8 Hours

Samsung gear s2 nov 15ANDROID AUTHORITY - Nov 4 - In China, the Gear S2 is being sold for 2,198 Yuan (approx $350) while the Gear S2 Classic retails for 2,398 Yuan (approx $390). Both are competitively priced and if Samsung is able to make enough units to meet overall global demand, the Gear S2 range could prove to be the closest challenger to the Apple Watch, which currently dominates the wearables market.

Apple Watch Surpasses All Other Wearables

Strategy Analytics noted 6.1M wearable sales during the July-September period. Apple took the lion’s share with 72.8%, while Samsung slumped into second with 9.8%.

Samsung, LG Tap Battery Biz For Wearables

Samsung sdi logoGLOBAL POST - Oct 20 - Samsung SDI unveiled two types of flexible the ultra-slim, 0.3mm-thin stripe battery is a next-generation battery made with fiber which enables far greater flexibility than existing bendable cells, and the band-type battery is designed to be used in smartwatches and is proven to resist over 50,000 bendings and enhance a gadget's capacity by up to 50%.

LG Chem also put on display a wristband-type battery called "wire battery" that can be folded into half. The company developed a wire-type battery in 2013 for the first time in the world, before it came up with the world's first hexagonal-shape battery in June.

Apple Watch Owns 75% Of Smartwatch Market

Apple watch pic july 15MAC WORLD - Jul 22 - According to a report by Strategy Analytics, in just three months, the Apple Watch has managed to capture 75.5% of the global smartwatch market share, shipping an estimated 4 million units to vendors all over the world.The report also found that during that same period Samsung’s smartwatch market share plummeted from 73.6% marketshare down to 7.5%. Other smartwatch makers have also seen a decline in market share because of the Apple Watch—going from 26.4% to 17%.
