Microsoft Wearables Control System Driven By Surface Sound & Action Gestures

PATENTLY APPLE - Nov 18 - The US Patent Office published a new Microsoft patent application covering an invention that relates to using wearables in a new way to control other devices. The wearable would be able to control other smart devices such as a TV, a smartphone or HMD. The wearable, being a small form factor, can't use a touch display for controls and incorporates a microphone. Users can scratch the arm of their family room leather chair and that unique sound wave would be able to control changing channels or audio of a TV, or advance a tune on your stereo and so forth.

Microsoft Developing Cortana-Based Clip Wearables

IDIGITAL TIMES - Nov 10 - The new device, now only known as "Clip," will be ready sometime next year, but the company has started researching on how different people would react to an in-ear gadget that interact with and push notifications/reminders to the user by voice. The unannounced Cortana-based earpiece will be open to both Google Now and Apple's Siri which means that the 'hearable' will be available to both Android and iOS users.

Leaked Images Reveal Microsoft Band 2

TECHRADAR - Sep 20 - The images show a completely redesigned device with a curved display and metallic touches around its face, including physical buttons that will likely make the second Microsoft Band easier to navigate. The Band will reportedly exhibit some new features, including the ability to track inclines in a user’s steps, leading to much more accurate fitness statistics.

Microsoft Band Manufacturing Has Reportedly Been Stopped

UBERGIZMO - Jul 23 - The company is halting production of the original Band to focus on the successor’s development and release. They will sell out its existing stock and once it also runs out of refurbished units no new units will be sold directly or through retailers. There has been no official comment on this report from Microsoft so it would be best to take this with a grain of salt until we hear something from Redmond.

Microsoft Hololens Mission To Space Halted Following Rocket Explosion

TECH TIMES - Jul 1 - Microsoft's plans to send its new HoloLens technology to space will wait a while longer as SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket suddenly blew up on Sunday several moments after its launch. The first function of the ISS HoloLens, called Remote Expert Mode, would have allowed NASA's ground operators to look through the eyes of a space station crew member virtually. Procedure Mode, would have made it possible for animated sets of instructions to be displayed directly into the field of view of a crew member.

Microsoft Band Continues To Improve

THE MOTLEY FOOL - Apr 30 - Microsoft has added a dedicated app for cyclists and a virtual keyboard that allowed owners of Windows Phones to respond to text messages from their wrist. The Health app was updated for better data tracking. Microsoft also introduced a SDK that allowed third-party developers to create apps for Band. In April, Microsoft updated Health again, allowing users to compare their vitals with others. The Band gained the ability to measure oxygen levels during exercise and suggest the best time for owners to schedule their workouts.

IBTIMES - Apr 30 - This is how Microsoft's Joseph Sirosh succinctly explained a system which leverages cloud computing, wearable technology and the IoT to help farmers accurately predict the best time to get their cows pregnant. A system called Gyujo was developed by Fujitsu and uses a pedometer strapped to the leg of the cow to help figure out exactly when is the best time to inseminate a cow if you want a male or female calf.
