HTC Spends $10M On 15% Stake In VR Platform WEVR
TECH CRUNCH - Jul 30 - HTC is planning to release its extremely well-received VR headset Vive to consumers later this year, possibly in November. In the meantime, the Taiwanese company is busy building out its VR ecosystem. In addition to enabling developers to create and publish VR content, WEVR also runs a grant program called OnWEVR that awards virtual reality producers from $5,000 to $50,000 to support projects.
Under Armour Targets Connected Fitness With The Grip
FORBES - Jun 29 - While the apps seem to be Under Armour’s primary focus, the company is also teaming up with HTC to manufacture a new fitness tracking hardware device to support its software services. The Grip, is a fitness tracker that will be available for sale at a price of $199 later this year. The apps will also work with other popular fitness tracking hardware devices such as Fitbit and Jawbone.
VR Headsets Raise Concerns

At Valve, makers of HTC's Vive, developers plan to minimize unwanted collisions with a feature it calls a "chaperone" system. A trickier challenge could be policing virtual reality games that are social in nature. The potential for harassment - especially in online settings that permit anonymity - are very real for VR.

The other reason was that the smartwatch was not yet finalised for the market and HTC was looking to refine the product further and deliver a more definitive product. A source close to Mobileburn stated that though the smartwatch was ready for launch in September 2014, the company decided to take a few extra months to refine it.
