Google's Disease Detecting Pill
WIRED - Oct 28 - The company is attempting to develop a pill that would send microscopic particles into the bloodstream in an effort to identify cancers, imminent heart attacks, and other diseases. The nanoparticles combine a magnetic material with antibodies or proteins that can attach to and detect other molecules inside the body. A wearable device could use their magnetic cores to gather them back together and read what they’ve found.

- Pebble isn't worried about Apple iWatch. Pebble will occupy the low-end. In Sams Club for $95
- Successful wearable entrepreneurs are empathetic and oriented towards serving humanity.
- The best wearables truly extend basic human capability.
- Google as a company is not emotionally empathetic which is why they've had a problem with Glass.
- Jobs didn't want apps on the phone and didn't like mobile video. He wasn't right about everything.
- Wearables – is it merely a transition industry towards embedables/sub-cutanous computers?
- Apple will spend 100x more than all the other wearable companies combined in their first year
- Shenzhen is an awesome area for prototyping and manufacturing!
- In Shenzhen many products are started with $25k capital and then they start their pre-selling phase 6 to 12 months before their crowdfunding and manufacture. Go to Shenzhen early.
- Using the phone while wearing a Skully helmet is ok. Its been shown that using the phone while riding actually activates the brain more so riders are more aware of their surroundings.
- The best wearable tech will be invisible wearable tech. Unseen.
- Intel is building the Edison platform to help smaller wearables innovators. Right now its good for lite IoT and larger wearables. Intel is developing more SoCs for smaller products.
- You should realise and consider the emotional value of wearables! i.e. women hearing the heartbeat of their baby using Bellabeat.

- The fashion industry stands at $3.7 trillion USD a year and is growing 5% a year! Wearables need to be fashionable.
- Most people don't know that Nest makes their money from selling power data to power companies.
- We need to relieve people from information overload, not add to it. Information nausea! We need to save people time.
- Swiss watch manufacturers are safe. Noone is occupying the digital high end space. Digital watches will suffer from rapid obsolescense. They're not something that will be handed down in family.
- To design a great wearable consider 'would you go on a date with that wearable?'
- Wearables are 'living services' and need to have some of the qualities of good relationships.
- It's so important to stick prototypes onto people and observe how they use them.
- The Minority Report computer interface will never happen. Although its inventor might disagree (see TED video from 7 mins). Tom Cruise got tired holding arms up operating it. It's exhausting. Same with Leap Motion.
- Because of information overload we've become a different kind of human. We're becoming more uninteresting and uninterested. We're hooked on the dopamine response to new information. There's an atrophy of the mind-body connection. We're in trouble. There's a loss of deep focus and creative thought.
- We've been dematerializing for the last few years. Losing CD's for mp3's, downloading things, consolidating devices. And yet here we are introducing more devices in the form of a multitude of wearables. The trend is reversing.
- The London College of Fashion has prototyping and manufacturing rooms waiting for more creators.
Google To Lead Investment In Oculus Rival
DIGITAL TRENDS - Oct 14 - The company will lead a $500M funding round in virtual-reality startup Magic Leap. Re/code predicts Magic Leap’s product will involve face-based gear with super high-resolution images appearing immediately in front of your eyes, and various angles and depths viewable when you adjust focus.
Google Nexus 360 Concept Combines Smartphone And Smartwatch
MODERN READERS - Aug 24 - An artist concept rendering of the Google Nexus 360 depicts the possibility of a smartphone and smartwatch combined into one. The device is a 5" wearable mobile that is bendable to wrap around the wrist. The appeal of such a device is mixed due to the size.

Patents Hint At Future Google Glass Design
CNET NEWS – Aug 20 – A patent granted to Google on August 12 may give insight into future design concepts for Google Glass. It is a sleeker design with the display tech hidden inside the frames. The pictures in the patent show a set of Buddy Holly-style glasses with the projector mounted inside near the hinge on the right side.
Google Previews Fit SDK
ZDNET – Aug 8 – Google has released the Fit SDK in preview mode for developers. On display is are the initial tools for collecting activity data generated by fitness apps and sensors on Android devices, including smartphones, tablets and wearables. The SDK will go into general availability later this year.
Google Will Release API For Android Wear Custom Watch Faces
MASHABLE – July 17 – Google will soon be releasing an official API for Android Wear that will allow developers to create watch face designs. The goal is to make it easy to create good-looking faces which work across multiple form facts, conserve battery, and display the card stream well. No exact release date was given, though it may coincide with the migration to Android L later this year.
Google Partners With Novartis For Smart Contact Lens
CNET NEWS – July 15 – Google has signed an agreement with Novartis' Alcon eye care unit to license the smart contact lens technology for medical use in people with diabetes and other conditions. The glucose monitoring lens embeds a sensor and wireless chip between two layers of soft contact lens material, transmitting data to an app. The smart lens technology could also help people with presbyopia by restoring the eye's autofocus capability through a contact or intraocular lens.
Google Launches Samsung & LG Smartwatches On Play Store
CNBC – July 8 – Google has launched the Samsung Gear Live and LG G Watch on the Play Store. Both devices run Android Wear and contain Qualcomm processors and ARM technologies. Gear Live sells for $199, while the G Watch sells for $229. Both wearables are voice activated. IDC estimates that 19M+ wearables will ship in 2014, and shipments will grow to ~112M.
Google Updates Play Services For Wearables
PC WORLD – July 3 – Google released version 5.0 of Play Services with new features to encourage developers to customize their apps for Android Wear. New APIs make it easier to communicate with apps running on Android wearables, as well as providing automatically synced persistent storage and a low-latency messaging interface. Google also added a Saved Games feature to save progress across multiple devices, as well as a Quest service for tracking game accomplishments. More information about Play Services 5.0 is available on the Google developer website.
Apple, Google, Samsung Push Into Glucose Monitoring
ASSOCIATED PRESS - June 23 - Diabetes affects 29M Americans and the global blood-sugar tracking market will be worth $12B by 2017. Successfully adding reliable, non-invasive glucose monitoring to a wearable could bring enormous payoffs. Google has publicly revealed its glucose monitoring contact lens. Apple's FDA communications also point to glucose monitoring. Samsung is seeking developers of the technology for its Simband platform. All three companies have been acquiring talent in the space.

New Wearable To Launch At Google I/O With Google Fit
THE NEXT DIGIT - June 14 - A new wearable will be launched at Google I/O along with the Google Fit platform. Google Fit is expected to be integrated into both Android Wear and Android for data collection and aggregation. Samsung also recently launched its SAMI health platform, so it is unclear if the company's next wearables will be launched at Google I/O. Apple has integrated its HealthKit platform into the upcoming iOS8, which can pull data from Android devices.
Wearable Apps Platform Market Apple's Or Google's To Take
BUSINESS INSIDER – June 2 – The wearable apps development environment is highly fragmented as greater numbers of devices come to market with proprietary platforms. Pebble has 1k apps, while most other devices have less than 100. Apple and Google have millions of apps with 50B+ cumulative downloads. If they can provide developers the tools to translate existing smartphone and tablet apps to wearable apps, they will take a commanding lead in the market. Wristwear could make up 70% of the wearables market, and apps for the devices should run independent of a smartphone.

Can Ivy Ross Save Google Glass?
THE MOTLEY FOOL – May 22 – Google has hired design and marketing guru, Ivy Ross, to lead development of Glass. This bodes well for the fashion problem, but will that be enough to overcome the lack of adoption? Google has also partnered with Luxottica to leverage its extensive wholesale distribution network and 7K stores worldwide. Positioning Glass as a more mainstream consumer product is crucial to its success.

Google Replacing 'Bricked' Glass Wearables
CIO.COM - Apr 28 - Google is sending new Glass devices to users who experienced problems with a recent software update. Google stopped rolling out its latest Glass software update, called XE16, after the download accidentally "bricked" some Glass "Explorers'" device, sending the wearables into a never-ending reboot cycle.
Google Patents Tiny Cameras Embedded In Contact Lenses
TECH CRUNCH - Apr 15 - Google has a new patent application with the USPTO. It is tiny cameras that could be embedded in contact lenses for various uses, including photographing what a wearer sees, or providing the basic input for a contact-based assistive device for the visually impaired.
