Will The IoT Become The Internet Of Broken Things?

Cisco maciej kranzCIO - Apr 17 - Cisco Systems estimates that the number of devices connected to the Internet will reach 50B by 2020. How will vendors ensure that these devices are compatible? We'll more likely see mergers, acquisitions and partnership activity before we see the influence of cross-industry, technical standards. Maciej Kranz, VP of the corporate technology group at Cisco, points to security as a top concern as well. Not everything that can be connected, will be connected — sensors will appear in things when it makes sense commercially, socially and for the greater public good. Cisco is working with the industry to solve these challenges, having recently announced a joint architecture with Rockwell Automation to improve IoT security.

Internet Of Things Is A $19 Trillion Opportunity

Cisco john chambersWASHINGTON POST - Jan 29 - Cisco CEO John Chambers predicted the Internet of Things (IoT) would be a $19 trillion market over the next several years. IoT is a term for connected sensors, devices and objects. Cisco is establishing itself as a network provider enabling the IoT. In May, it acquired energy data management company JouleX, and created a new Internet of Things division. A few of Cisco’s public sector customers explained how they use IoT to operate more efficient.
