AT&T Adds Wearables To Portfolio

AT&T Expanding Into IoT

These companies include industrial automation giant Rockwell Automation andHydropoint, a start-up that produces smart sprinkler heads for irrigation systems in California. Other projects include connected 3D printers, solar powered radios, and connected cars. AT&T can leverage its strength in telecom services to sell new IoT-based services.

AT&T Adds 6 More Wearables

Att logoCNET - Jun 17 - The carrier will start selling the Case-Mate Rebecca Minkoff Notification Bracelet, Healbe GoBe, Mio Fuse, Misfit Flash, Withings Activité and the Withings Activité Pop, beginning June 26. With the addition of the six wearables, the company says it will now have more than 30 wearables to offer customers.

AT&T Wants Wearables Independent

The goal is to get consumers to add more devices onto their shared data plans. Adding more devices equals greater demand for data and a higher monthly wireless bill.

AT&T Exec: Standalone Wearables Coming This Year

Att logoPC WORLD – July 9 – According to an AT&T executive, the company will carry at least one wearable that can work independent of a smartphone by the end of the year. AT&T believes that once wearables can connect to LTE without a phone, it will open up a number of opportunities, similar to the tablet market. The company is also looking at cars as connected devices to enable voice commands and other driver safety features.

AT&T Wearables To Hit The Smartwatch Runway Soon

Att logoTECH HIVE - Apr 17 - Smartwatches for use on AT&T’s network will be out this year. “You’ll see wide-area, high-bandwidth smartwatches this year,” said Glenn Lurie, president of emerging devices at AT&T. “We’ve been very clear in our opinion that a wearable needs to be a stand-alone device,” Lurie said. Lurie couldn’t say when smartglasses would be certified to work on AT&T’s network.
