Asus Confirms AR Glasses To Be Released Next Year

Asus logoCNET - Nov 11 - After previously revealing it was mulling over the idea, Asus has officially announced it's working on its own augmented reality headset, and that it plans on releasing it next year for $3000. "It should be next year when we come out with a product," CEO Jerry Shen said, adding "we think AR (augmented reality) will be very important for people's lives."

Asus Considers AR Glasses

Asus logoKRWG NEWS 22 - Oct 21 - Asus is talking with the Windows software maker about building its own version of Microsoft’s HoloLens. Asus' interest in becoming the first outside company to build a version of Microsoft’s device could give a boost to AR. No version of HoloLens is on the market yet. Microsoft is expected to release a version for software developers for $3,000 in early 2016. That move is designed to spur developers to create HoloLens apps that will appeal to consumers.

Asus ZenWatch 2 Release Date, Price, Specs And Features

Asus zenwatch twoPC ADVISOR - Sep 22 - The smartwatch will arrive in October across Europe and will cost from 149 Euros with the larger model costing 169 Euros. Asus is sticking to a square screen and touts 18 different strap and colour combinations with rubber, leather and metal straps plus a choice of silver, gunmetal and rose-gold body. New features include a metal watch crown, a magnetic charger (larger model with a 'chargeback'), runs on Android Wear and includes some of Asus' own software features including FoneHelper, activity and fitness tracking, Asus Wellness and Remote Camera.

Top Next-gen Smartwatches

Apple watch 2WAREABLE - Jul 8 - The Apple Watch sequel will boast a FaceTime camera, as well as Wi-Fi connectivity enabling it to receive emails, text messages and more while away from your phone.

Lenovo's next version will have a "modified design" and would be "more beautiful and more like a clock". Expect a launch this September.

The ZenWatch 2 comes in two sizes. The displays for both are the same 2.5D curved AMOLED, and the only real design change is the addition of a standby button on the side in the form of a watch dial.

The next Samsung Gear's rotating bezel adds physical controls to the touchscreen setup. It can be used for a number of navigation actions including scrolling, zooming and adjusting levels.

Asustek Planning VivoWatch Sequel For 2016

Asustek vivowatchCNA - May 1 - Asustek is already planning a successor to its newly launched VivoWatch that runs on the company's own operating system for wearables, according to sources familiar with the matter. Asustek intends to test other microcontroller units that will further optimize the system's scheduling algorithm and is thinking about creating customized components, in collaboration with suppliers, to achieve a thinner design and better performance.

Asus Takes Android Wear To The Next Level

Asus ZenwatchTECHRADAR - Sep 1 - The Asus ZenWatch might be the cheapest, feature rich Android Wear smartwatch yet. Reports state that Asus' first smartwatch will be revealed during IFA 2014 and will come to limited markets, including the US, in October for less than $199. The device will purportedly include a few more voice controls on top the ones that come preprogrammed into Android Wear. Supposedly the watch will also be able to functions in some capacity even without pairing with a smartphone.

Asus Preps Wearable For Q3 Launch

Asus logoPC WORLD – May 8 – Asus CEO Jerry Shen indicated a probably launch of a wearable product in Q3 2014. Asus has partnered with Google to manufacture Android-powered watches as well. The company is looking beyond smartwatches, wristbands and glasses at other opportunities in smaller electronics. According to Shen, Asus' mobile device revenues will surpass its PC business by 2017, which currently accounts for 62% of revenues.

Asus, Acer Tap Into The Wearables World

Pebble smartwatchBGR - Jan 29 - Asus and Acer are interested in the growing wearables market and will have such devices of their own in stores this year. "We’ll try to replace your watch by all means,” said Asus Chairman Jonney Shih. Acer is working on a “’distinctive’ wearable device” with an option for a necklace-style piece. Various companies are launching new smartwatch models including Samsung, Sony, Pebble. Apple expected to have an iWatch in stores at some point in the future. The wearable device market will grow to $20.6B by 2018.
