New Wearables Incubator In Europe

New Wearables Showcased At Wearable Tech LA

Wearabletech la logo1CONTRA COSTA TIMES – July 17 – The Wearable Tech LA conference saw the introduction of a number of new wearables, including the ArmStar BodyGuard. The device consists of an armband and form-fitting glove which includes a computer with a touch-screen interface, an LED flashlight, a camera, a speaker, mic and a Taser. Optinvent's $950 ORA eyewear offers normal vision while also displaying a virtual image simultaneously. ORA can run applications as a stand-alone, wearable computer and can also be connected via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to any smart device. According to IDC, wearables will become a $12B industry by 2018.

Wearable World Partners With American Airlines For Wearables Hackathon

Wearables hackathonENGADGET – July 15 – Wearable World partnered with American Airlines to create a wearables hackathon, tasking 200 developers to create a travel-related wearables app from scratch in 24 hours. Finalists were given 30 days to work on their app before testing it on a flight. UsTwo created the winning app, which allows the traveler and a selected person to monitor their travel, receiving push notifications at each step, as well as monitoring the plane's location. The app relies on common-use iBeacons, known as the SITA registry, to track location within the airport.

Glazed conference whiteSF CHRONICLE - June 5 - The Glazed Conference wrapped up Wednesday in San Francisco, after showcasing the latest in wearable tech, including brain wave scanners, smart glasses, and fitness-trackers. Wearable companies must do a better job of knowing what's on their customers' minds and matching their lifestyles in order to drive widespread adoption. Wearables of interest were the Muse headband, which uses EEG to measure brain activity to sense the user's mood.
