Acer Debuts Liquid Leap Smartwatch

Acer liquid leapMASHABLE – June 2 – Acer debuted its Liquid Leap smartwatch at Computex on Monday. The device is a mix of smartwatch and fitness tracker features: email, text messaging, steps, distance, calories and sleep. Liquid Leap only works with Acer's Liquid Jade phone, and will cost less than €99 in Europe. According to Canalys, smartwatch shipments are projected to reach 8M in 2014, 23M by 2015 and 45M by 2017.

Acer To Launch Wearable Devices In H2 Of 2014

Acer logoGIZBOT - Mar 7 - Taiwan's Acer has plans to jump into wearable devices market sometime later this year. The company ruled out a possibility to launch a smartwatch that could rival Samsung's Gear 2. The new report further states that the company will approach "new designs" and form factors, so as to differentiate it from rivals. Acer could possibly announce a necklace that may sport body temperature sensors and connect to a smartphone via Bluetooth, or work independently.

Asus, Acer Tap Into The Wearables World

Pebble smartwatchBGR - Jan 29 - Asus and Acer are interested in the growing wearables market and will have such devices of their own in stores this year. "We’ll try to replace your watch by all means,” said Asus Chairman Jonney Shih. Acer is working on a “’distinctive’ wearable device” with an option for a necklace-style piece. Various companies are launching new smartwatch models including Samsung, Sony, Pebble. Apple expected to have an iWatch in stores at some point in the future. The wearable device market will grow to $20.6B by 2018.
