FORBES - Jun 29 - While the apps seem to be Under Armour’s primary focus, the company is also teaming up with HTC to manufacture a new fitness tracking hardware device to support its software services. The Grip, is a fitness tracker that will be available for sale at a price of $199 later this year. The apps will also work with other popular fitness tracking hardware devices such as Fitbit and Jawbone.

GSR Emotional Sensors In Wearables
DESIGN NEWS - Jun 29 - GSR is beginning to make its way to the masses in some of the latest wearables to hit the market, including Jawbone’s UP3 and Microsoft’s Microsoft Band.
The Moodmetric Ring uses the sensor to measure a user’s emotional reactions throughout the day. The ring sends real-time information to the Moodmetric smartphone app via Bluetooth, giving users instant feedback on their mood and emotional levels as well as exercise tips to help them calm down if they find themselves overly charged.
Sensoree's GER (Galvanic Extimacy Responder) sweater uses the information gathered from GSR sensors worn on the hands to change the color of the LED lights in the sweater’s cowl to match the mood of the wearer.
The all-Chinese Smartwatch, Ticwatch
WAREABLE - Jun 29 - 16,000 backers on e-commerce and crowdfunding site JD.com have raised over RMB 8 million ($1.3M) for Mobvoi, the startup that built the $160 smartwatch. Instead of attempting to localise an international smartwatch and failing, Mobvoi has started local and is building a smartwatch around what it does best, voice recognition and search services in China. Mobvoi enlisted the help of Frogdesign's Shanghai studio.

University Of Tokyo Team Develops Stretchy Smart Cloth
GIZMODO - Jun 28 - Japanese researchers have created a printable conducive ink on cloth, in a single-step process, electrodes and wires can be printed on both surfaces of the textile using the wonder ink. This new super cloth is also way softer and stretchier than today’s harder, more rigid wearables and printed electronics. Even when stretched to three times its length, the ink remained highly conducive.

Eargo Is The Hearing Aid Of The Future
TECHCRUNCH - Jun 25 - After five years of research and $13 million in venture funding from Maveron, Eargo has created an invisible, rechargeable hearing aid modeled after the fishing fly, made out of flexi fibers that suspend a tiny speaker in the ear. Unlike traditional hearing devices, which block the entire ear drum, these fibers allow certain sound waves to pass through, so the speaker only has to amplify the frequencies that the user has trouble hearing.

Spec-Sensors To Help Avoid Smog In Polluted Cities
SCMP - Jun 25 - Spec-Sensors uses electrochemical sensors to monitor levels of carbon monoxide and other gases and particulate matter. The sensors measure 15 mm by 15 mm, but the company is working to reduce their size to 5 mm by 5 mm, which would expand their application for use in wearables and smart homes.

Tech Industry Pushing FDA For More Explicit Regulations
THE VERGE - Jun 24 - The FDA is making the guidance at a time when the wearable tech is already a cycle years in the making. As the scope of medical devices has increased, device makers have asked the FDA to define exactly where the regulatory line is. The agency is working on the final version of the guidance, but hasn't laid out a timeframe for when it will be completed. The tech industry has made it clear that they believe regulation shouldn't stop consumers from having the ability to "self-manage" their health.
Security Slammed In Tracker Test
WAREABLE - Jun 24 - Independent IT security institute AV Test has tested nine popular fitness trackers, including the Fitbit Charge, Acer Liquid Leap, Jawbone UP24 and Garmin Vivosmart and found a bunch of glaring security holes in a number of fitness trackers. Many of the apps could be accessed by determined hackers and it is often possible for third party apps to request access to bands and take information. Polar Loop and Sony SmartBand Talk SWR30 were the most secure.
