Samsung's $100M IoT Bet

FAST COMPANY - Jan 28 - Samsung has thrown its weight behind an effort called Thread, which works by assigning every device its own IP address, and brings numerous benefits including end-to-end encryption and low power consumption and has sided with the Open Interconnect Consortium, who has announced a framework called IoTivity that will allow devices to communicate across different network protocols and operating systems. The idea is that future smart home apps could control any IoTivity device, across all brands that support the standard, with the same piece of code.
