Montblanc To Sell Hybrid Smartwatch In June
WALL STREET JOURNAL - Jan 20 - Montblanc will begin selling the TimeWalker Urban Speed e-Strap, starting at 2,990 euros ($3,470), which combines a traditional Swiss mechanical watch with a strap that tracks the wearer's physical activity and monitors calories burned. It will also notify the wearer of incoming messages to his or her smartphone, which it links to via Bluetooth.
Fujitsu Wearable Will Track Driver Drowsiness
EWEEK - Jan 20 - The Vehicle ICT FEELythm is aimed at making the tech vendor a larger player in the growing wearables and IoT markets. Fujitsu in March will begin shipping the device designed to make the roads safer by sensing when a driver is getting drowsy and then alerting the driver and the driver's company about the problem.

Unbuntu Core is available as open-source for both ARM- and x86- IoTs and high-end wearables. Hardware developers can use the $35 ARMv7 Odroid-C-1, Beaglebone Black or the Raspberry Pi boards to get a quick start. Drones and robots are the first target for Canonical's IoT App Store.

FDA To Regulate Some Wearables
DIGITAL TRENDS - Jan 20 - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has just put together its preliminary guidelines to determine which wearables will face regulatory scrutiny and which will get a free pass. The proposal states only wearables that claim to help diagnose and treat serious illnesses, as well as those that pose a threat to consumers welfare, will be monitored by the FDA.
Epson, i2CAT Create Smart Glasses App Development Centre
TELECOMPAPER - Jan 19 - Epson and i2CAT have signed an agreement to create a research centre in Catalonia to develop new apps and services for Epson's wearable tech products, above all its Moverio range of smart glasses. According to the partners, the Moverio Competence Centre will act as a European reference centre for research into the use of augmented reality in the professional field, while consolidating Catalonia’s position as a strategic meeting point for developers, customers and suppliers of smart glass applications.
Fitness Tracker And Smartwatch Users 'Fundamentally Different'
BIZREPORT - Jan 20 - Fitness tracker and smartwatch owners vary greatly in age, gender and income, according to new research released by NPD Connected Intelligence. Smartwatches appeal more to men (71%) and younger consumers aged 18-34 (69%) with incomes below $45,000 (48%). However fitness trackers appeal more to women (54%), those age between 35-54 (36%) and people with an average income of more than $100,000 (41%).

The bracelet will vibrate to alert the child that they’re wandering too far and the wristband and mobile app both sound an alarm when border is crossed. The Kiband will also alert the parent when it’s submerged in water.

TECH CRUNCH - Jan 16 - Bellabeat, the maker of a trio of health trackers for moms and moms-to-be, is now broadening its focus to include a feature set designed to appeal to all women after selling out of its initial pre-orders, netting the company $1.2M in revenue. The new piece of “smart jewelry” can be worn as a necklace, pendant, bracelet or brooch to track activity, sleep and stress levels, and overall reproductive health.
