WAREABLE - Jan 28 - Magic Leap blows away the competition with its huge $542m cash injection from companies including Google and Qualcomm last year. In 2nd place is Jawbone with $147m and Misfit comes in 3rd place with the $40m investment from Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi and others which we reported back in early December. Other companies of note on the list, presented by StrategyEye, included Jaunt VR ($28m), Huami ($35m) - Xiaomi's fitness wearable partner and Zepp Labs ($15m) which makes the Zepp Golf Sensor.
PC WORLD - Jan 30 - Jawbone is trying to separate itself from run-of-the-mill fitness trackers with its new Marketplace, selling third-party products that tie into Jawbone's own wearables.
WIRED - Jan 29 - Emmi Solutions, a health care technology company focused on helping providers empower people to be active in their own care, predicts that widespread changes in the health care system will require organizations to build a relationship with patients. Coinciding with this change will be the availability of a deepened pool of data and sophisticated analytics to segment populations, two factors essential to making the conversations more meaningful and valuable.

UBERGIZMO - Jan 29 - The round Android Wear smartwatch is expected to debut alongside Huawei’s new fitness platform, but beyond that there were no additional details.
TECH CRUNCH - Jan 29 - Whistle is expanding its position with the acquisition of a competitor in the pet wearable space, Tagg, and adding another $15 million to its war chest via a Series B round led by Nokia Growth Partners and including Qualcomm, Carmelo Anthony’s Melo7 Tech Partners, Queensbridge Venture Partners and existing investors.
GIGAOM - Jan 28 - The round was led by Horizons Ventures, Tim Draper, BOE Optoelectronics and Garry Tan and Alexis Ohanian of Y Combinator. Danhua Capital, Commodore Partners and Vegas Tech Fund also participated.
FAST COMPANY - Jan 28 - Samsung has thrown its weight behind an effort called Thread, which works by assigning every device its own IP address, and brings numerous benefits including end-to-end encryption and low power consumption and has sided with the Open Interconnect Consortium, who has announced a framework called IoTivity that will allow devices to communicate across different network protocols and operating systems. The idea is that future smart home apps could control any IoTivity device, across all brands that support the standard, with the same piece of code.
PR NEWSWIRE - Jan 28 - M100 Smart Glasses along with warehouse "vision picking" software developed by Ubimax has successfully delivered hands-free warehouse solutions for, the world's largest logistics company. The pilot proved that augmented reality offers added value to logistics and resulted in a 25% efficiency increase during the picking process.
IEEE SPECTRUM - Jan 28 - Using human skin as one of its charge-collectors, a new flexible generator converts muscle movements into enough power for small electronics. The postage-stamp-sized device takes advantage of static electricity to convert mechanical energy into electrical energy.

DIGITAL JOURNAL - Jan 27 - ABI Research expects unit shipment growth of nearly 150% in 2015, almost of all of which will be in the enterprise and public sector. The market intelligence firm expects over 90% of smart glasses to be sold in to the enterprise or public sector in 2015 e.g., remote assistance, police and military, security, warehouse and barcode scanning, and, in the consumer space for gaming.
ANDROID HEADLINES - Jan 27 - They have patented a changeable glasses design that, using a smartphone, allows the wearer to change the color and style of the glasses – both the lenses and the frame. The glasses do not require a smartphone to work as they can be manually controlled to lighten or darken the lenses.
MMM - Jan 27 - The drugmaker is using fitness trackers, like Fitbit, to gather data on multiple sclerosis sufferers. Biogen gave away 250 Fitbits to US MS patients last spring to help determine the speed at which patients walk, the magazine writes. That data could assist in mapping out the disease's progression by monitoring and analyzing the speed and duration patents walk each day.
DEMOCRAT & CHRONICLE - Jan 27 - The smartglass company will celebrate being listed on the NASDAQ Capital Market by ringing the market's opening bell on Wednesday. Vuzix announced earlier this month that it received a $24.8M investment from Intel, which snapped up 30% of its outstanding stock in the deal. Vuzix stock was up nearly 2.3 percent on Tuesday to $7.16, that's up from a 52- week low of $2.10.
CNET NEWS - Jan 27 - The Flash's click-button now be connected to things like IFTTT and will work with the Logitech Harmony API for home media and light controls, August Smart Lock to unlock doors, and with Nest thermostats to adjust home temperature. Double-clicking on the Flash tracker will be able to launch Spotify on a phone, or connect with the Yo app. The Flash will also work with Misfit's Bolt connected multi-color LED light bulbs.
READ WRITE - Jan 27 - Apple CEO Tim Cook disclosed Tuesday that the highly anticipated Apple Watch will begin shipping in April, though he didn’t specify an exact release date. He did, however, mention that development has been progressing “right on schedule.”

For Glove One, he opened up an existing phone and divested it of all its buttons and switches, soldering the proper wires and components together.

It can be used to a maximum operational depth of 427 ft (130 m), and the altimeter works to Everest-topping heights of 32,808 ft (10,000 m).
