VENTURE BEAT – June 25 – Samsung has introduced its Gear Live smartwatch, which runs Android Wear. The OS uses cards to organize the functions of the smartwatch. There is a compass function, though the Gear Live lacks a GPS radio. A sensor on the back of the watch tracks heart rate, and an accelerometer counts steps. Calender entries, reminders, and travel information can be displayed on the watch, as well as controls for music on a phone or Android device. A button on the right side of the watch wakes the phone from low-power mode. Gear Live also receives instant messages and notifications which can be dismissed or responded to by voice.
