THE STAR - June 23 - Researchers at University of Kaiserslautern in Germany have developed a smart glass iris aperture for cameras, allowing for much smaller applications than traditional mechanical apertures. The electrochromatic materials turn opaque with an electrical current to control the amount of light passing through. The key issue to be addressed in response time, which lags behind mechanical systems. Once solved, cameras featuring the new aperture could be used in a number of smart devices.
