THE ATLANTIC - May 30 - To be clinically useful, wearables must meet the gold standards of medical devices. Samsung plans to create the Center for Digital Health Innovation, partnering with University of California San Francisco, in order to validate the sensors and algorithms produced within the Samsung ecosystem. Samsung hopes the research will transition wearables beyond “quantified self” into producing novel vital signs that are accurate enough for medical use.
