TECHRADAR - May 23 - Having been bested in the smartphone market with a paltry 5% market share in the US and Western Europe, Microsoft could find opportunity to become a market leader in wearables. Microsoft has filed a patent for a “wearable which displays information” that can be removed from the strap and docked. The $7.2 billion acquisition of Nokia could help. According to Canalys, wearables will sell over 45 million units annually by 2017.
